Sounds of the Mediterranean The performing arts festival of City Parks Foundation showcases some of the world's most accomplished and inventive musicians, dancers, filmmakers, comedians, and writers.
This event will include music and traditions from Greece, Morocco, and Spain. Amalia Papastefanou, a famous singer from the Dodecanese islands, will represent Greek music, along with Yianni Themelis* (laouto), Lefteris Bournias (clarinos), Yianni Anastasopoulos (keyboard), and other musicians.
Well-known Pontic lyra player Christos Tiktapanidis will contribute with his extraordinary music.
There will be a dance seminar open to the public, with Dimitri Tashie* and GAFS performers in traditional attire. There will be room for dancing in front of the stage and everybody is welcome and encouraged to join us.

The members of the Atlanta award winning Troupe Ellas are organizing a Greek dance seminar May 4-6.
On Saturday night May 5 there will be a live music dance party extravaganza with some amazing musicians. Three of Greece's very top Pontic musicians (Panayiotis Kongalidis - lyra/kemence; Alexis Parcharidis - vocals; Yanni Polychronidis - daouli); Jim Stoynoff on clarinet (Epirot and Aegean Macedonian); Georgi Zhelyazkov & family (Bulgarian and Greek Thracian); Manolis (Kalymnian bagpipe - tsabuna) and some of our very own up and coming young Greek Americans: Billy Houreas (gaida), John Themelis and Andreas Goustas (lyra & laouto - Karpathos and Crete).

Iliana Bozhanova is a native of Gulubovo, Bulgaria. She comes from a family of musicians and singers in Southern Thrace and is interested in the connections between Greek and Bulgarian culture. She has toured as a principal dancer and singer with Ensemble Ruchenitsa of Plovdiv since childhood, and has traveled extensively to teach in Norway, Holland, Israel, Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan and Hong Kong. She has taught at a number of major camps in the U.S.

| JANUARY 2007 | Armenian Line Dance Workshop with Haig Rakidjian
Haig will be teaching Armenian provincial (kavaragan) dances which since time immemorial had been transmitted from generation to generation in the Anatolian provinces and Caucasus. These dances (Tamzara, Sepastia Bar, Laz Bar, Bijou, Popouri, Halay, Govand) were brought here by our survivors and emigrants and revealed during their respective compatriotic union affairs (hantes) in the 1920's. Haig will also be teaching Armenian diaspora dances performed at Armenian kef/picnics. Refreshments will be served.
